Submission Guidelines
The author must download the following form from the journal's website, complete it, and attach it to his or her contribution:
- Application for article review. Declaration of individual or collective authorship (in the case of works completed by more than one author); each author or co-author must certify that they have directly contributed to the intellectual development of the work and that they approve it for blind peer review and, if applicable, publication. Declaration that the submitted manuscript is unpublished and not under review by any other publication. Information: name, academic degree, institution where they work, address, telephone number, email address.
- Brief resume of the author not exceeding 5 lines, on a separate sheet.
- The work and documents requested above should be sent to the email address: editor@revistaalfa.org
- Submissions must be submitted in letter size, using 12-point Arial font, in one column, and in upper and lower case.
- The title must be trilingual (Spanish, English, and Portuguese) and may not exceed 15 words.
- Each contribution must be accompanied by a summary in Spanish that does not exceed 150 words, with five to six keywords that are included in the IRESIE controlled vocabulary, plus the translation of that summary into English (abstract) with its corresponding keywords and Portuguese Resumo (note the correct way to write this term).
- Keywords will be presented in alphabetical order. All papers must have conclusions.
- Graphic elements (charts, graphs, diagrams, drawings, photographs) must be numbered in the order of appearance and in the appropriate place within the body of the text, with their respective fonts at the bottom and their original programs. That is, they should not be inserted into the text in image format.
- Photographs must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and be 140 mm wide.
- Texts and comments are not allowed as footnotes. Anything presented in this way must be incorporated into the text in an appropriate manner.
- The list of bibliographic references should also be structured according to the Vancouver style.
- Every article in a digital journal must have the corresponding DOI, and texts taken from editable web pages must have the retrieval date added. Some examples are provided below.
Citation System
The journal's citation system is numerical, in parentheses.
- The journal's citation system is numerical, in parentheses.
Example: Jones (8) has argued that…
- References are numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first used in the text. Full citations will be included in the Reference List at the end of your document, with matching numbers identifying each reference.
- When citing multiple references together, use a hyphen to indicate a series of inclusive numbers. Use commas to indicate a series of non-inclusive numbers. The notation with these references (4, 5, 6, 7, 14, 19) is abbreviated as (4-7, 14, 19).
Example: Multiple clinical trials (4-6,9) show...
- The original number used for a reference is reused each time the reference is cited.
Example: "...the theory was first presented by Lee (7) in 1999, but there was disagreement (3,5,8) about its significance."
- Include the page number for any direct quotes or specific ideas.
Example: "...has been proven to be false." (4, p23)
- The parenthetical citation is placed after any comma and period, and before any other period and semicolon.
Example: ... a new definition. (13, p111-2)... this option is preferred (11);
- Do not use superscripts or subscripts to write the respective citation.
- When references are placed at the end of the paragraph, they must be placed before the full stop: (8).
- Do not use underlining of any kind.
- A publication and its author(s) will be cited only once. Do not use multiple citations from the same publication with the term Op. cit.
- Texts and comments are not allowed as footnotes. Anything presented in this way must be incorporated into the text in an appropriate manner.
- Do not place citations in the form of endnotes.
- When citing a study, mention only the surname of the first author, without adding et al or col.
- Quotes from other quotes are not allowed. Ex: 8. Cited by Comte: Chedwin R. Scientific disciplines....
Indirect Citations
An indirect source is when an author cites another author's work in the text. These types of citations are generally not accepted in Vancouver Style, so ask your instructor for permission. Include the author and date of the original source in the text. Use "as cited in" or "as discussed in" to indicate where you found the quote, and provide the citation to that reference.
Example: James Wallace (2001) argued (cited by 5, p26), that...
Bibliographical References
Only published material is referenced. Authors are expected to reference material published in journals in Bolivia and Latin America, including the ALFA Journal of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences.
The reference list should be placed on a separate sheet at the end of the article, in the same numerical order in which they were cited. References should not be numbered automatically or bulleted, and the authors should ensure that this is the case. The reference number should be included directly, with no additional references.
